Lot Details

"For Lisa" is a rare color lithograph by Willem de Kooning. He attempted color lithography several times throughout his career, preferring the ease of printing in black and white. He found the medium frustrating, stating that he disliked printing different colors in different layers, rather than all at once.

This is a very good impression with strong colors. The "wave" effect on the edges of the paper is a result of the lithography process. Handmade paper in particular becomes wavy while drying. This print was published to benefit The Children's Museum, Los Angeles in 1984. It comes in 20 x 26 inch frame as shown.
