Lot Details

This small sculptural work "High-heeled Shoes (Gold)" is a hybrid innovative piece by Chinese artist Wang Zi (B. 1972), who's celebrated works utilize popular culture figures and images of Contemporary society. In his "High-heeled Shoe" series of various colors, Wang couples the iconic seductive western high-heel form with the sexually explicit bent over pose of a female nude. The materials, in comparison, are traditional porcelain blue and white embellished designs. The choice of juxtaposing these styles and subjects illustrate ingenuity behind the practice of representation of Capitalism vs Communism and East vs West.

Wang Zi was born in China and graduated from Anyang Normal College, Fine Art Department in 1994 and in 1997 he furthered his studies in the Center Academic Fine Arts. His exhibitions include the First as well as the Second International Art Festival in Beijing, the China National Visual Exhibition, and the Chinese Art Performance Documentary Exhibition.
