Lot Details

Wang Guangyi's rare color silk-screen print, "Untitled", 2005 is from an edition of 99 and is from the celebrated 'The Giants of the Chinese Contemporary Art' portfolio that included works by the most famous Chinese Contemporary Artists of their generation. The print measures 21.72 x 29 in./55 x 74 cm. Note that this work is custom framed to slightly larger dimensions and in perfect condition

On a surface level, the work of Wang Guangyi is connected to Warhol's Pop iconography in both technique and aesthetics, but their inherent contents are extremely sophisticated fusions of different belief systems, namely socialism and consumerism. Wang Guangyi is one of the most important artists of the “Political Pop”. Wang Guangyi’s aesthetic entails sampling a variety of imagery - such as well-known propaganda images and photographs - and fusing them with corporate brand names in order to undermine their original purpose. In combining ideology and advertisement, he criticizes the apparent ’truths’ of both. In short, he brands Socialist Realist iconography and symbols. The artist lives and works in China.
