Lot Details

"Kumomozuki-zu" (2010) is a dynamic and super-vivid silver leaf large-scale painting by rising star, Japanese Contemporary emerging artist VIWA (Japan. b. 1976) whose sublime and colorful abstract paintings are inspired by traditional Edo-period Japanese landscape painting; considered the "Golden Age" in Japan for fine and decorative arts. VIWA uniquely conflates traditional compositions and calligraphy with his own modern visual vocabulary, that is a celebratory version of Japanese culture past and present, employing a myriad of brilliant colors in blance with matte metallic silver leaf, controlled space and patterns, and an influence of urban street art and graffiti. This painting measures 30.70 x 59.05 inches (78 x 150 cm) and is in excellent condition.

VIWA was born in Saitama Japan in 1976 and received a BFA in Painting from Tokyo Zokei University in Japan in 2001. The artist has held solo and group exhibitions throughout Asia and Europe represented by top galleries including Karin Weber Gallery and Sunjin Galleries. The artist currently lives and works in Tokyo, Japan.
