Lot Details

"Between One Shore and Many Others (Just what is it...after Richard Hamilton)" (2008) is a masterpiece image by famed Contemporary Indian artist Vivek Vilasini (India B. 1964), who has become internationally acclaimed for his incredibly intense, highly ironic works that employ and conflate Indian traditional imagery with American and British Pop Art Culture. His own version here of British Pop Artist Richard Hamilton's most famous 1956 collage work,"Just What Is It That Makes Today’s Homes So Different, So Appealing?" is brilliant, intense and totally unique. This work is unframed, measures 54 x 54 inches and is in excellent condition.

Focusing on incredibly ironic and visually intense figural photography and multimedia works, contemporary artist Vivek Vilasini closely investigates the effects of existing social structures and cultural identities upon individuals in the grand scheme of rapidly developing globalization and ever-changing ideologies. Using an array of mediums he is most famous for his digitally manipulated color photography, as well as his paintings, and video, and works with 'arte povera' materials such wood, steel, dust, his works address controversial narratives, embellished with a hint of dark irony and humor. The work of Vivek is immediately recognizable and is comprised in a language that is all his own. The artist has been exhibited in the top Museums and Galleries world-wide, internationally, with recent shows held at Indigo Blue Art (Singapore), The Guild (New York, NY), Aicon Gallery (London, UK), and The Sharjah Art Museum (Sharjah, UAE), among others.
