This chromogenic color print commemorates one of Vik Muniz's pieces for his "Imaginary Museum" exhibition at the Lambert Collection, Avignon, France in 2012. For the exhibition, the artist presented recreations of famous artworks by Cézanne, Picasso, Monet, and others out of unexpected objects and materials. His interpretation of Van Gogh's "The Sower," depicted in the present work, was constructed from dried flower pods, grass, sticks, and straw.

Vik Muniz (b. 1961) is a contemporary Brazilian photographer whose intricate, often whimsical works reinterpret famous images from art history and popular culture. Muniz’s process often involves reconstructing a well-known artwork or image from unexpected materials, such as peanut butter and jelly, Bosco syrup, or garbage. Born in São Paulo, Muniz attended art school before beginning a career in advertising. He moved to New York in the 1980s and, after working as a framer and sculptor for some time, began taking photographs. Muniz’s work is held in numerous public collections worldwide. He has had recent solo exhibitions at Sikkema Jenkins & Co, New York, NY (2008, 2011); the Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2009); and the Centro de Arte Contemporânea de Malaga, Spain, among many others. He lives and works in New York, NY.
