T.V. Santhosh. "Untitled". (2006). Watercolor on paper. Please note that the unframed dimensions are 22 x 30 in. Measurements with frame are larger at 38.5 x 30.5 inches. This work is in excellent condition and is a major example of the figurative watercolor works by Santhosh.

This stunning work depicts a young Indian Man in profile who is depicted face to face with a beautiful seagull, the mouth of the man and the beak of the bird touching in this surreal image that appears to glow at the center of this powerful realist watercolor, that belongs to a famous series of surreal watercolor works on paper by renowned Contemporary Indian artist T.V Santhosh. This is an exciting example from his ongoing series of monochromatic watercolor works on paper that feature a central image, a bizarre snap-shot, that emerges from amongst the pools of dark watercolor that occupy most of the page, as if this is an apparition or dream. The superficial beauty and the unique combination of imagery that Santhosh creates are powerful works which explores historical injustices, acts of violence, the relationship of man to the organic and artificial, life and death, and the manipulation of media propaganda.

Appropriating references from news sources such as television, newspapers, and magazines, Santhosh surrounds viewers with the immediacy of his work, and is internationally known for his oil paintings with his famous solarizing his palette to create stunning visual effects within his compositions as well as his ongoing series of smaller, watercolor works on paper. His painterly style is incredible and allows his subverted techniques to create deeper psychological narratives within the margins of his work. Santhosh is one of the most famous Contemporary Indian artists working today with his paintings and watercolors in top Museum and Private Collections. In turn, he has held solo exhibitions at such venues as The Singapore Art Museum (Singapore), The Saatchi Gallery (London, UK), among others.
