"Jean-Michel Basquiat" (1987) is a dynamic color photograph portrait of one of the most famous artists of the 20th century by Hong Kong born artist Tseng Kwong Chi (b. 1950-1990). This is edition 10 of 25, and is the first edition of this photograph to come to international auction, measures 20 x 24 inches ( 50.8 x 61 cm) is unframed and in excellent condition.

and stamped by the estate and signed on verso by sister, Muna Tseng as is typical of his work.Born in Hong Kong in 1950, Tseng Kwong Chi emigrated to Vancouver in 1966 and studied at the University of British Columbia before moving to Paris to study art. Chi transitioned to the medium of photography after extensive training in traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting. Tseng Kwong Chi is known for his work depicting the art scene in Greenwich Village in the 1980’s. During this period, he documented the work of artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, and Keith Haring, and created a self-portrait series entitled “East Meets West.” This series played on the ideas of travel and tourism, as Chi posed for photographs in popular tourist destinations throughout New York and the world. An insider of this bourgeoning art culture, Tseng Kwong Chi was able to capture the developing New York art scene.
