Lot Details

"Succumbing" (2012) is one of the finest of the stunning photo-realist oil paintings by famed South-East Asian artist Tran Huy Hoan (Hanoi, Vietnam, b. 1956). Here, the artist depicts a beautiful young woman standing in profile her face tilted upwards with eyes closed as if meditating, draped in diaphanous fabrics with a large crane standing serenely behind her wrapped in plastic, a bird that represents good fortune in Asia. This painting measures 42 x 34 inches and is in excellent condition. Human and animal here co-exist in this surreal space that is void of any specific context, yet both share a sense of immobility, hence the title of the work.

Born in 1956 in Vietnam, Tran Huy Hoan received his advanced degrees in from the Fine Art and Cinematography Department of the Hanoi School of Fine Arts, and attended the School of Photography in Poland and also in Russia in 1994. Huy Hoan has works are included in museums and private collections throughout Vietnam, as well as throughout Asia, Europe, and the U.S. His work was most recently exhibited at the prestigious Art Asia Miami Art Fair, U.S, in December 2012 to critical acclaim. The artist lives and works in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
