Lot Details

A wonderful example of Tony Oursler’s vibrant works on paper, “Color Study for Super Pet” (2003) employs a visual language similar to the artist's sought-after multi-media sculptural works. Fusing abstract pattern with corporeal form, an anonymous face emerges from the striped background. Further pointing to the artists use of video, the striped field recalls the iconic color calibration bars that typically appear before and after video footage. A classic example of Oursler's visual language, "Color Study for Super Pet" presents a biomorphic character that is both playful and humorous as well as grotesque and shocking, reflecting the artists fascination with the human psyche.
