Lot Details

Incorporating a Pop Art approach in his iconic graffiti styling, this mixed media on canvas by Tilt portrays the famous visage of Marilyn Monroe in ‘Marilyn’s Shadow (Blue)’ from 2012. With a nod to Yves Kelin, Tilt Employs the vivid color he’s become renowned for, cleverly comprising the starlet’s face as a mosaic of the artist’s tags, bombs and throw-ups seen in much of his work across the world.

Hailing from Toulouse, France, contemporary graffiti artist Tilt is known for his combination of classic, old school graffiti styling with complicated 3-D lettering, characters, and Wildstyles. His work is defined by brilliant coloring, curvaceous shapes, and bubble letter throw-ups designed for fast executions in risky situations. Tilt got his start learning the trade tagging skateboard ramps and subway trains, and has since gone on to leave his mark around the world in South Asia, Australia, North America, and throughout Europe. The artist has had shows held at venues internationally including Montana Gallery (Barcelona, SP), Pictures on the Wall (London, UK), Disrupt Gallery (Auckland, NZ), and Guerrero Gallery (San Francisco, CA), among others.
