The artist is famous for surreal figurative-based narratives that mix the poignant with the fantastic and where performance art and photography intersect. Tian’s manipulated photographs touch on multiple layers of Chinese cultural history and social reality, critiquing the residual effects of the Cultural Revolution in a profound manner. Tian Taiquan (China, b. 1960) is one of the leading photographers of his generation and continues to be one of the most famed and collected photographers from the Chinese Avant-Garde generation. His photographs have been the subject of prestigious Museum exhibitions internationally such as "Seek and Hide, Tian Taiquan Solo Exhibition," Cultural Arts Museum, Beijing, China and "Foreordination and Transcendence" Contemporary Photography Exhibition, Singapore. The artist graduated from the prestigious Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, China in 1988 and has been a Resident Artist at Tank Loft, Chongqing Contemporary Art Centre. The artist lives and works in China.
