Lot Details

"Salvation no. 12" (2007) is part of the intense series of large-scale color photographs by famed Chinese Contemporary photographer Tian Taiquan, part of the artist's iconic "Sacrifice" series, where performance art and photography intersect. Set inside a famous graveyard in China, a locale linked to the days of The Cultural Revolution, a luminous anonymous nude young woman appears amidst the darkness of the graveyard, like an angel. To the far left of this surreal narrative is a subtle transparent spectral image of a young school girl, sitting quiet and small upon the graveyard steps, as if she has been waiting for years for this angel come and take her to a better place. The spirit of this young girl represents the souls of all the innocent people lost during the Cultural Revolution. This photograph is unframed and in excellent condition from an edition of just 8.
