Lot Details

"Sacrifice 《祭》 No. 27" (2007) is a sublime and visceral color photograph by Chinese photographer Tian Taiquan from his epic "Sacrifice" series. From an edition of 8. Dimensions: 47.25 x 88.6 inches (120 x 225 cm), unframed and in excellent condition. The setting is a famous Red Guard graveyard in China, a dark and mysterious locale. The nude woman at center remains anonymous, allowing the visual focus to be on her virginal skin, now defiled with "tattooed" Chinese text and bleeding from one breast, her skin replaces a page from a Communist Chinese manifesto.

Tian's photographs have been the subject of prestigious Museum exhibitions, such as his 2009 solo exhibition at The Today Museum China, "Seek and Hide, Tian Taiquan Solo Exhibition," at the Cultural Arts Museum, Beijing, China and "Foreordination and Transcendence Contemporary Photography Exhibition", Singapore.
