Lot Details

Dimensions: 47.25 x 59.50 inches/(120 x 151 cm), unframed and in excellent condition. From an edition of 8. "Sacrifice No.13" (2007) is a poignant and haunting large-scale color photograph by acclaimed Chinese Contemporary artist Tian Taiquan. The location of this work is a famous Red Guard graveyard in Beijing. As if a worn and forgotten marble statue, a nude young woman appears leaning up on the cemetery's wall- the amount of time she has remained there is underscored by the lush, green ivy that grows around her.

Tian's photographs, especially from the "Sacrifice" series, have been the subject of Gallery and Museum exhibitions such as "Seek and Hide, Tian Taiquan Solo Exhibition," Cultural Arts Museum, Beijing, China and "Foreordination and Transcendence" Contemporary Photography Exhibition, Singapore. The artist graduated from the prestigious Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, China in 1988 and was a Resident Artist at Tank Loft, Chongqing Contemporary Art Centre, China.
