Lot Details

"Memory of Time No. 6" (2007) is one of the most sought after images from Chinese Contemporary photographer Tian Taiquan's (Chinese B. 1960)
iconic series of large format color photographs where performance art and photography intersect. Tian depicts two young Chinese women who lay together wearing Red Guard uniforms that barely cover their nudity, shot from a bird's eye perspective. They lay upon a floor totally covered with Chinese Communist newspapers and manifestos. The uncertainly of the physical state of these women, (are they sleeping, wounded, dead?) heightens the emotional and psychological tension of the narrative in a singular manner that has become a signature of the artist. This photograph measures 63 x 47.25 inches (160 x 120 cm), is unframed, mounted on alubond and in excellent condition.

Tian Taiquan (b. 1960, China) has been one of the leading performance artists and photographers of his generation and continues to be one of the most famed and collected photographers from the Chinese Avant-Garde generation of artist. His photographs, especially from the "Memory of Time" series, have been the subject of prestigious Museum exhibitions internationally such as "Seek and Hide, Tian Taiquan Solo Exhibition," Cultural Arts Museum, Beijing, China and "Foreordination and Transcendence" Contemporary Photography Exhibition, Singapore. His work is found in the world's top fine art and photo Museum and Private collections.
