Lot Details

This mint condition Thomas Struth print is from an edition of 80. It is signed on the reverse and has never been framed.

Since the late seventies, photographer Thomas Struth (b. 1954) has been known for his varied portraits, landscapes, and images of architecture, cityscapes, and museum interiors. Trained first in painting, he took up photography in 1974 while a student at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts under Gerhard Richter (1974), and later Bernd and Hilla Becher (1976). First photographing people in Düsseldorf and other cities, he went on to generate a significant early body of black-and-white street and city images beginning in 1977. This series led to his first solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art P.S.1, Queens, New York in 1978. Struth went on to produce similar series in Paris (1979), Rome (1984), Edinburgh (1985), and Tokyo (1986), among other cities. In the 1980s, he began taking portraits of friends and family.
