Flower Ball disc with Original Flower drawing
13.5 inches in diameter
Print with fiberglass overlay
These rare Flower Ball discs were available only in very limited quantities to VIP at Takashi Murakami's reception at the MOCA in Los Angeles, CA. A large flower drawing is done in marker and signed by Takashi Murakami on the back of the disc. The thick fiberglass overlay adds a very shiny surface to the piece giving it a nice glossy appearance.
Considered the Warhol of Japan, Takashi Murakami (b. 1963) is a prolific contemporary Japanese artist who works in both fine arts media, such as painting, as well as digital and commercial media. Having been classically trained in the historic ‘Nihon-ga’ style, Murakami's talent lies in his ability to blend traditional Japanese painting with that of contemporary pop culture. Often pushing the boundaries between what is considered high and low art, Takashi Murakami incorporates popular themes from pop culture, media, and cartoon animation into anything from his "Superflat" paintings to his enormous sculptures. He also brands his own art to create marketable commercial goods including figurines, apparel, and even key chains. Murakami's work is exhibited internationally and is included in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art (New York, NY), the Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles, CA), and the Museum of Contemporary Art (Tokyo, Japan).
