"Chor Minar Hauz Khas, Delhi/Montreal, Canada", 2001-2003 is a stunning large-scale color photograph from internationally famed Indian Contemporary artist Sunil Gupta's (Indian b. 1953) acclaimed autobiographical “Homelands” series. In this series of photographs visually divided at center, Gupta juxtaposes images of the different environments in which he has lived that when placed together in a single composition create a sense of curiosity, tension and drama, a curious narrative that the viewer is free to interpret as they wish. The images he selects to represent the places and people in his life are magnificent, often harsh, and always unapologetic and stunning. Unframed dimensions: 23 x 59 inches (58.4 x 149.9 cm). This is the formal AP aside from edition of 5. Signed, titled, dated and numbered. Professionally and archivally matted and framed.

One of the most famous post-Modern Indian artists working today, Sunil Gupta was born in New Delhi, India in 1953. He moved to Montreal when he was a teenager and lived in New York in the mid-1970s. There he studied photography with Philippe Halsman and Lisette Model at the New School for Social Research. In 1983, he received his MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art in London. Gupta’s photographic work is heavily influenced by his own personal history. He explores political and social issues of India, often focusing on themes of race, gender and sexuality. Gupta’s photographs have been shown in over 90 solo and group exhibitions worldwide. He also has two published monographs: “Pictures From Here” (2003) and “Wish You Were Here: Memories of a Gay Life” (2008).
