Steve McCurry has made it his mission to bring the world to our doorstep, and through his portraits we feel we are a part of a global village. In the current lot it is a child of the nomadic tradition in Tibet that he brings into focus. Nomads evoke a romantic sense of freedom but their numbers are dwindling due to governmental policy, economic pressures, modern technology and urban sprawl. The Tibetan Nomads are yak herders and say their way of life is much easier than that of framers – the animals reproduce themselves and give milk and meat without much work for the tribe. In Steve McCurry’s Tibetan Child in Tent, 2005 shows a delicately featured young boy in a yak tent; he is cleverly bundled for the elements and has purpose to his gaze beyond his years.
