Born in Gradizhsk (Градизьк), Ukraine, Sonia Delaunay-Terk (1885-1979) produced a variety of art work, extending from paintings to textile and stage set designs. With help from her husband, artist Robert Delaunay, she co-founded Orphism, an avant-garde off-shoot of cubism characterized by strong colors and geometric shapes. Consumed with the depiction of light and movement, they were able to form a new expression based on a simultaneous contrast. Her geometric abstractions, integration of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings and clothing are best known for its use of color and movement. This artist was an important member of the Art-Deco movement because of her artistic approach to every-day-life.
