"Untitled (Universe Series)" (2012) Song Wei (b. 1955) is an exciting, Chinese Contemporary artist who is gaining international acclaim for his large-scale, dynamic abstract 'action' paintings such as this stunning and dynamic work where the artist unabashedly splatters large areas of gold paint to the canvas, dramatically contrasting against the saturated black. This painting is unframed and in excellent condition, measuring 63 x 78.75 inches (160 x 200 cm). For Song, his selection of paints and its relationship to the canvas representing the stars, the heavens and distant galaxies. Song's definite and deft application of his medium is clearly influenced by artist such as Jackson Pollock as well as traditional abstract Chinese ink painting and calligraphy.

Song Wei is only recently being show outside of mainland China yet has been an major influence on the Chinese art scene for decades. In 1989 he was a major sponsor for the world renowned "China Avantgarde" exhibition, and helped build the first private Art Museum in China in 1990, establishing himself at the forefront of the Contemporary art movement. The artist lives and works in Beijing, China.
