Song Wei (China, b. 1955), famous in his native China, is a renowned abstract artist who is gaining international acclaim for his large-scale, dynamic abstract paintings from his "Universe" series. This large-scale painting is unabashedly celebratory, with the artist splattering definite areas of paint in an intense abstract composition and with a vivid pop-art palette of synthetic blues, bright yellows, and brilliant reds splayed upon a black background. Together these elements represent the cosmos, stars, planets, and distant galaxies as imagined by the artist. Song's methods of action-painting is clearly influenced by artist Jackson Pollock, as well as by traditional Chinese ink paintings and calligraphy. This painting is unframed and in excellent condition, measures 59.05 x 47.25 inches (150 x 120 cm)

Song Wei was born in China in 1955 and is only recently receiving long over-due critical acclaim for his large-scale abstract painting outside of mainland China, yet he has been an major influence and part of the Chinese Contemporary art world decades. In 1989 the artist contributed funds for the world renowned "China Avantgarde" exhibition, he was a seminal part of building the first private Art Museum in China in 1990, establishing himself at the forefront of the Contemporary art movement.
