Lot Details

"Utopia no. 16" (2012) is a stunning large-scale realist oil painting with a cropped, close-up composition of beautiful pink flowers in full bloom with miniature bright red winged human figures, frolicking as if honey bees, their vivid color referencing China. This painting belongs to Shi's seminal new "Utopia" series that marks a significant new direction in the artist's oeuvre, which for decades was based on an intense black and red color palette and Mao's power-based imagery. Instead, the "Utopia" series celebrates the growing peace and prosperity in modern-day China as well as the blossoming potential for the individuals of China. "Utopia no. 16" measures 39.37 x 59.00 inches (100 x 150 cm) is unframed and in perfect condition.
