Lot Details

This lot consists of two hand signed and numbered silkscreens by Shepard Fairey, each being a homage to Pop Art legends Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein respectively:

Rare Artists Proof, Sold Out Edition
This is a rare Artists Proof created especially for the opening of Shepard Fairey's "Supply and Demand" Exhibition at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. This incredibly popular screenprint sold out very soon after the sale was announced by the museum, and is now only available on the secondary market. Fairey's "Global Warning/Global Warming", featuring a sunbathing woman covering herself with the aptly titled "Sun" newspaper, directly attacks the right-wing who deny the science of climate change, and even features his own Windmill Power poster as an alternative. (There was also a more common Red version of this screenprint, but only this pink one - the Warhol edition - was sold exclusively by the Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh for the Fairey exhibition; this particular one is an Artist's Proof.) During the exhibition, this iconic image was also featured on a New York City billboard.

(2) POW(ER) (Homage to Roy Lichtenstein), 2010
Signed and numbered by Shepard Fairey, Sold Out Edition
This image is Fairey's homage to Pop art legend Roy Lichtenstein. appropriating the latter's iconic "Spray" image from the early 1960s, made famous in the One Cent Life Portfolio. It also reflects Fairey's unique fusion of Pop art, Street art and political themes -- and the "POWE (ER)" of art to change the world. It is from the sold out edition of 450 prints.
