Lot Details

The images that make up Shadi Ghadirian’s series Ctrl+Alt+Delete are indicative of the artist’s continued exploration of the theme of conflict between tradition and modernity and the position of women in a society dominated by male stereotypes. In this work, she cleverly constructs a photographic montage by outlining the contours of a female figure with computer icons. As in her previous series, she is addressing viewpoints concerning the taboo surrounding the female body within Islamic society: positioned in front of a black background that she blends into, the model is at the same time revealed by the computer icons that delineate the form.

Ghadirian was born in 1974 in Tehran, where she currently lives. In addition to producing her own artwork as a professional photographer, Ghadirian also works at the Museum of Photography in Tehran. She has exhibited her works in prestigious venues worldwide, has had her photographs published in print articles for the New York Times, the Daily Telegraph, the BBC and more, and has numerous pieces in permanent collections including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
