Lot Details

Boldly featuring SEEN's signature "piece," this large-scale spray paint on canvas work is a consummate example of the artist's vibrant use of color and bold lettering.

SEEN (b. 1961, a.k.a. Richard "Richie" Morando) is one of the world's leading Graffiti artists. He first started to paint New York City subway cars during the early 1970s with his crew United Artists ("UA"). In the 1980s, he had group shows of his works on canvas with contemporaries such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Keith Haring. More recently, he has turned his preoccupation with the transit system into a series of hand-painted, limited-edition MTA New York subway maps. He has also gone beyond two-dimensional work to explore sculpture and mixed media works of discarded and re-used materials. SEEN has had solo shows at Magda Danysz Gallery, Paris, France (2010); Kleerup Gallery, Stockholm, Sweden (2009); Grand Palais, Paris, France (2009); the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, PA (2009); Power House Arena, New York, NY (2007); and Stolen Space Gallery, London, England (2006), among others.
