This self portrait is an exquisite example the bright, vibrant colors and expressive figuration for which Salomé is known. This work was executed on two sheets of paper.

Salomé (b. 1954), born Wolfgang Ludwig Cihlarz in Karlsruhe, was a member of the art group Junge Wilde. He moved to West Berlin in 1973, where he later formed the HAW, Gay Action West Berlin, and changed his name to the pseudonym Salomé. Working in Berlin together with well known artists Helmut Middendorf, Bernd Zimmer, Rainer Fetting, Anne Jud, Berthold Schepers and Rolf von Bergmann, he became founder of the “Galerie am Moritzplatz” (Gallery at Moritzplatz). Salomé was also active in the New Wave music scene, forming the 'Horny Animals' band together with Luciano Castelli in 1980 and became a key figure within the Berlin scene, along with David Bowie and Helmut Newton. He lives and works in Berlin.
