"Garden of the Moon" (2012) is a stunning mixed media on canvas fantasy-scape by celebrated Contemporary Korean artist Ryu Junhwa (Korea, b. 1963). This work is painted in warm muted hues, precisely applied in many translucent layers of paint, and features several bathing young girls playing under the moon in water surrounded by hanging vines, flower, and wildlife. Junhwa paints this this surreal narrative with an emphasis on the feminine realm, fertility, and nature, denoted by the water which surrounds her stylized female figure, the deer and birds, and lively colored flowers sprouting out and around. This painting measures 51.18 x 57.28 inches, (130 x 145.5 cm) is unframed and in excellent condition.

The emphasis on enlightenment and awakening that this figure represents are a reoccurring themes in Junhwa's work, as are other Buddhist principles. These motifs in Junhwa's oeuvre are painted as messengers from the gods sent down to enlighten the world. Junhwa has had a recent solo exhibition at the prestigious Kwanhoon Gallery, from November 14th - 27th of this year.

Ryu Junhwa was born in Seoul, Korea in 1963 and attended both Hong-ik University and Kyungbuk University in Seoul, Korea. Junhwa's work has been extensively exhibited in major public and private institutions throughout South Korea including the Daegeon City Museum, the Kyunghee Museum, the Insa Art Center, National Museum of Modern Art, Soma Museum, Suho Museum and many more. The artist is shown in important galleries throughout Asia and Europe including Kwanhoon Gallery, Gana Art Gallery, Gallery Beone with work held in the permanent collections at the Kyunggi-do Museum, South Korea the Yangpyung-gun Museum, South Korea and several others. Ryu Junhwa currently lives and works in South Korea.
