Lot Details

In 1995 Lichtenstein returned to landscape painting and more specifically to the motifs of Chinese landscapes, which he had been exposed to as a student at Ohio State University in the 1940s. The concept of using calligraphic brushstrokes to render an image appealed to Lichtenstein who utilized Benday dots in the same manner. In 1996, Lichtenstein created a series of paintings based on the Song Dynasty (960-1279). These detached, transcendental works would be the final works created by the artist who died a year later in 1997.

An absolutely PRISTINE example of this print, unframed from the numbered edition of 175.
