This lithograph is one of the last prints made by Lichtenstein, who died in 1997. It refers back to his series of large-scale prints from 1990 and 1991, where he depicted living room interiors. This print, done in a smaller, more intimate size, shows a red lamp on a white end table, beside a quaint white chair. This relaxing scene is surrounded by an illustrated yellow frame.

"Red Lamp" was published for Leo Castelli Gallery's Art Takes Care Benefit in 1992, which also marked the gallery's 35th anniversary. The proceeds from the benefit supported the Village Nursing Home, which was an AIDS and geriatric care facility.
