Lot Details

ACQUIRED DIRECTLY FROM ROY LICHTENSTEIN'S DEALER IN THE 1960'S- INCLUDES ORIGINAL INVOICE

Extremely rare signed Roy Lichtenstein plate. These plates were originally sold in packs of 10 through On First, NY. Lichtenstein signed a very low number of these for VIPs and galleries. This is in pristine condition.

Bert Stern, the photographer of Marilyn Monroe, among other things, had a pop art store in the 1960s. Roy Lichtenstein created this multiple where he investigated in three-dimension, the idea of still life, even mimicking the reflection caught in a porcelain plate. Lichtenstein would not revisit the theme of reflection until 1990 when he created the "Reflection Series." In the best tradition of pop, this early multiple was fun and affordable, without the "fine art" seriousness of New York Abstract Expressionist artists that the pop artists found tiresome. Printed on the verso of the plates: "Roy Lichtenstein On 1st Inc. 1969"
