Vintage print.

Born in France in 1912, Doisneau studied engraving at Ecole Estienne only to graduate and realize he had no use for that knowledge. He joined the advertising department of a pharmaceutical firm where he learned photography. In 1932, he was successful in selling his first photo-story to the Excelsior newspaper. He worked for the Rapho photo agency before being drafted in 1939. After the war, without delay, Doisneau began freelance work for LIFE magazine and many other well-known magazines. From 1948-1951 he was a fashion photographer for Vogue, Paris. His most famous photograph, Kiss by the Hotel de Ville, is a perfect example of how Doisneau is celebrated for his ability to capture profound moments in time amidst a buzzing world. He died in Paris in April of 1994.
