Printer later; paper size is 15.75 x 11.75 inches (40 x 30 cm). This a rare image of one of Doisneau's favorite subjects - romance in Paris.

Robert Doisneau (1912-1994) was one of France's most popular and prolific reportage photographers. He was known for creating playful and ironic images of amusing juxtapositions, mingling social classes and eccentrics in Paris. Influenced by the work of Kertesz, Atget and Cartier-Bresson, Doisneau captured the frailty of humans, depicting life as a series of quiet, incongruous moments. Doisneau wrote, "The marvels of daily life are exciting; no movie director can arrange the unexpected that you find in the street."
