Lot Details

Throughout his career, Rob Wynne has experimented with various modes of expression, unafraid to explore and combine imagery and techniques in new and surprising ways. Breaking away from his characteristic glass medium, Wynne demonstrates his artistic concern for conveying real emotion through art with this early venture into oil painting. In this untitled abstraction, Wynne uses gestural marks and vivid color combinations to craft an imagined world that, like his glass sculptures, is both humorous and personally reflective.

Best known for his mirrored glass works, typically expressing a word or appropriated phrase, Rob Wynne (b.1950) has experimented different materials, techniques, and points of view to create unique visual expressions that appear both insightful and kitsch. Over his career, Wynne has explored other mediums including photography, painting, and embroidery to articulate his decorative, poetic, and surrealist visions. Born and raised in the New York, NY, Wynne studied art at New York’s Pratt Institute. His work has been widely exhibited throughout the world and has been the subject of recent solo shows at JGM Galerie, Paris, France (2012); Locks Gallery, Philadelphia, PA (2011); Rebecca Ibel, Palm Beach, FL (2009); Dust Gallery, Las Vegas, NV (2007); and Galerie Oliver Schweden, Munich, Germany (2004).
