Lot Details

This original oil on canvas painting entitled "Road from Acapulco" exemplifies American Abstract and Pop artist Richard Crist’s iconic approach to geometric abstraction and amorphous forms, executed with bright colors on a dynamically composed background. This painting was executed in the early sixties when the Woodstock Art Association was actively exhibiting Crist's works. Dubbed the "local Louvre" by Life Magazine, the legendary Woodstock Art Association and Museum was a historic art cooperative that featured works by renowned area artists including Rolph Scarlett, Philip Guston, Marion Greenwood and others.

Richard Crist was an American abstract painter, known for employing bright vivid colors in his works of geometric abstraction. Known for his association with the Woostock Art Colony, Crist’s work explores amorphous shapes set upon receding spatial planes, investigating the interplay of visual perceptions with two dimensional works. His work is now difficult to find and rarely to market. Crist attended the Carnegie Institute (Pittsburg, PA) and the Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, IL). He has been included in numerous exhibitions including shows at the Corcoran Gallery (Washington, DC), Cincinnati Art Museum (Cincinnati, OH), and the Art Institute of Chicago (Chicago, IL), among others.

This painting is framed and measures 38.5 x 51 inches.
