Lot Details

Here is a wonderful, uncommon photograph, measuring 8 by 10 inches of internationally famous Pop Artist David Hockney driving with his beloved dog Stanley in the late 1980s. Stanley was a mainstay of Hockney's Malibu home, and the inspiration for many a work of art, later memorialized in a book called "David Hockney's Dog Days.

The photograph is hand signed by David Hockney in black felt tip pen on the recto (front).

The artist, born in Toronto in 1961, studied at the School of Visual Arts and The New School. He employs “straight photography” skills which he honed under the tutelage of Ansel Adams. White's work has been compared with Vija Celmins, Roni Horn, and Hiroshi Sugimoto.

This is a wonderful black and white photographic portrait of Hockney, driving intensely with his dog on his lap, exceptionally signed by the artist on the front, with the photographers copyright stamp on the back.
