RAQS Media Collective was founded in 1992 by Jeebesh Bagchi (b. 1965), Monica Narula (b. 1969), and Shuddhabrata Sengupta (b. 1968) as an outlet for the three to pursue documentary film-making.  Based in New Delhi, India, the group formed after the three graduated from the prestigious Mass Communications Research Center at the Jamia Milia Islamia University in Delhi.  They are self-proclaimed artists, curators, and philosophical agent provocateurs Over the past two decades, the group has made documentary films, art, books, and installations, and curated numerous exhibitions which have all had a deep impact on the contemporary culture of India.  Their artwork has become a fusion of different media, incorporating aspects of history, research, creativity, urban landscapes, criticism, digital art, and cyberculture.  Their work has become increasingly more complex and poetic and consisting of highly compelling installations.  RAQS has presented work at most major international art shows including Documenta and the Venice Biennale.  They live and work in Delhi, based out of Sarai, the Center for the Study of Developing Societies, which they founded in 2000.
