Lot Details

This oil on canvas by Rafal Bujnowski, painted to look like a plank of wood, was completed in 2001. Often featuring what he has called "fetishized" images, Bujnowski's work explores ideas of consumerism, construction, and appropriation in contemporary visual culture.

Rafał Bujnowski (Polish, b. 1974) is a conceptual artist, working with a variety of media. Incisive and absorbing, his work has been honored with group and solo exhibitions world-wide. Bujnowski's interest lies in revisiting the known and the ordinary, a champion of the understated, his ability to dismantle perspectives and reassemble them anew is at once playful and intelligent.
Bujnowski studied Architecture and later Graphic Art at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts, winning the International Art Award Kunstpreis Europas Zukunft in 2005. More recently he had a solo exhibition at Frieze, London in 2011 and was included in the exhibition "Polish! Contemporary Art from Poland" at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin in 2011.
