Lot Details

Painted with acrylic on an unstretched American flag, 'Like a Rolling Stone' is a 2011 work by Quik which characterizes his bright use of color and cartoonish figurations. Crucified upside-down is a skeletal character who, coupled with his placement on the flag, alludes to the oppression, misrepresentation, and injustices faced by individuals in a country claiming equality of rights and freedoms.

Growing up in Queens, New York, Lin Felton aka 'Quik' (b. 1958) started tagging around his neighborhood during the 1970’s and by the 1980's he was one of the few New York graffiti artists to be shown in art galleries and museums. Throughout his career, Quik's artistic style has matured to include ironic commentaries on social, political, and personal topics while still maintaining his personality and the spirit of graffiti. Quik has exhibited widely throughout the United States and abroad, with recent solo shows at Green Flowers Art Gallery, Boulogne-Billancourt, France; AAA Gallery, Rotterdam, Netherlands; Avenir Finance, Paris, France; and Galerie Arte Ventuno, Brussels.
