Lot Details

Exemplifying Quik’s characteristic use of bright colors, strong light/dark contrasts, and text, "Andy Warhol" displays the artist’s practice of combining pop iconography and graffiti elements in his paintings. Against a backdrop resembling the night sky, a voluptuous female is drawn with cartoonish figurations and thick lines, and accentuated by the silver paint pen used throughout the composition.

Growing up in Queens, New York, Lin Felton a.k.a. QUIK (b. 1958) started tagging around his neighborhood during the 1970s, and by the 1980s he was one of the few New York graffiti artists to be shown in art galleries and museums. Throughout his career, QUIK's artistic style has matured to include ironic commentaries on social, political, and personal topics while still maintaining his personality and the spirit of graffiti. QUIK has exhibited widely throughout the United States and abroad, with recent solo shows at Green Flowers Art Gallery, Boulogne-Billancourt, France; AAA Gallery, Rotterdam, Netherlands; Avenir Finance, Paris, France; and Galerie Arte Ventuno, Brussels, Belgium
