Lot Details

Born in Varanasi, India in 1981, emerging Contemporary Indian artist Phaneendra Nath Chaturvedi is Highly acclaimed with works depicting futuristic figures who have transformed into a semi-robotic beings. In this piece “Metamorphic Perspective # 19”, Chaturvedi reveals a skeletal figure metamorphosing blood and flesh into metallic strips revealing the grotesque and dispassionate aspects of the human being. Civilization represented by the city skyline disappears far into the background. The woman looms over a directional sign, denoting the singular orientation of the brutal, cold, newly incarnated man, in an alternative exotic fantasy world. Chaturvedi’s paintings comment on superficial beauty, insincerity, and corruption that has found its way into every aspect of society’s interactions.

Phaneendra Nath Chaturvedi received his BFA and MFA in painting from the College of Arts and Crafts at the University of Lucknow’s Faculty of Fine Arts, and has received two “All India Awards” as well being a selected representative of India in the 2006 exhibition in Seoul Arts Center. He has had three solo shows including, The Mint Gallery in New Delhi, State Lalit Kala Academy in Lucknow, and most recently the "Anthropomorphic Incarnation" in 2012 at Karin Weber Gallery in Hong Kong, as well as the recent “THE AUDI ART BOOK” group this year. Chaturvedi’s works are exhibited internationally and are part of private collections in India, USA, France, Germany and UK.
