Four works @ 13 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches

With his signature style of transforming complex forms into tromp l'oeil imagery, this set of 4 watercolors on paper by Peter Schuyff were executed in 1986. A clash of colors and grid-like forms work to visually engage with the viewer, as they tease out the surface dimensionality of the composition.

Born in Baarn, Holland, Neo-Geo artist Peter Schuyff (b. 1958) is known for his compelling self portraits, paintings executed on found paintings, and intricately carved baseball bats and pencils. For Schuyff, music has a resonating influence on much of his work, integrating rhythm and harmonious structures into complex compositions of interweaving forms. He often employs a vividly bright palette within his work, creating an elusive tromp l’oeil effect throughout the surfaces. Schuyff currently lives and works in Amsterdam. He has exhibited extensively throughout the world with shows at the Museum of Contemporary Art (New York, NY), Fodor Museum (Amsterdam, NL), Centre National d'Art Contemporian (Nice, IT), and Larry Gagosian Gallery (Los Angeles, CA), among others.
