Peter Downsbrough (American, b. 1940) is a visual artist who works in diverse including photography, film, sculpture, prints, and installation, while maintaining a close relationship to architecture and typography. Trained as an architect, Downsbrough left his studies to work as a sculptor and gained international recognition after his first solo show in New York City in 1962. His work is thoughtful, contained, and conscious of employing the bare necessities of form, line, (negative) space, and often text to generate well designed architectural expression. His film and video work also mirror these themes, often provoking viewers to contemplate time and space.

Downsbrough has been exhibiting regularly in the United States and Europe since 1972 and is represented by galleries in the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, France and the United States. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group shows at venues around the world including the Martine Aboucaya Gallery in Paris, Barbara Krakow Gallery in Boston, Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and Museu d´Art Contemporani in Barcelona.
