Lot Details

Scher creates dynamic maps that reveal in-depth views of different parts of the world, shedding new light on the art of cartography and encouraging the viewer to reexamine how we understand our world. Using text to denote geographical locations, Scher goes one step further to move the land mass names into the water portions of the topography and vica versa. Words take over the separative borders and boundaries of countries. Language and the written title name of place dominates the map. This print is handmade with thirty-five plus silkscreen runs, which further enhance her detailed textural content.

One of the most influential graphic designers of the 21st century, Paula Scher has designed logos and branding for some of the world's most notable corporations and non-profit organizations including Tiffany and Co., The Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Beacon award winning design for The Public Theater. Scher is the first female principal of Pentagram, the established design studio in London.
