Lot Details

Patrick Caulfield (1936-2005) is internationally renowned as one of Britain's greatest Pop artists, along with fellow contemporaries David Hockney, R.B. Kitaj, and Allen Jones, to name a few. A celebrated painter and printmaker, Caulfield was best known for his brightly colored Pop prints. This black and white print exemplifies the artist's trademark style of thick dark outlines and broad shapes of color. The simplicity of his prints meshed his attention to minimalist geometric forms with his ultimate devotion to the tradition of still-life. By deliberately choosing subjects that seemed somewhat ambiguous in time, Caulfield established a wonderful Pop aesthetic all his own. Caulfield was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1987.
