Lot Details

Glaring from the eyes of an innocent child, images of Buddha encourage an examination of the foundation and meaning of life. Referencing the Buddhist notion that harmony in nature equals harmony in life, Park begs for a re-evaluation of mankind’s treatment of the earth, insisting that our children and our future will continue to suffer until we are liberated from the control of our earthly desires.

Focusing on children’s portraiture, Dae Cho Park (b.1970) exploits their innocence to expose disastrous realities facing our contemporary world. Reflecting a concern for our future, Park uses his subject’s eyes and his own drawings to allude to the terror, loss, and despair caused by generations of man’s greed and desire. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Park studied at Sang-Myung University in Seoul, earning his MFA in Korean Painting in 2000. His work has been included in major exhibitions throughout the world and has been the subject of recent solo shows at Gallery Stanza, Seoul, Korea (2011); Able Fine Art, New York, NY (2011); Chelsea Art Museum, New York, NY (2010); Gallery Jinsun, Seoul, Korea (2010); Omaso Gallery, Valencia, Spain (2009); and Gallery Hoshi, Tokyo, Japan (2009).
