Lot Details

The playful "Fish Subject" is a whimsical earthenware pitcher in the shape of a cartoonish smiling fish. Picasso has cleverly transformed the pitcher's large opening into a fanned tail, the handle into a top fin, and the spout into an upward-curving nose. It is decorated in black and white engobes, which consists of a fine clay mixed with coloring oxides.

This work was exhibited as part of the "Picasso: 25 Years of Edition Ceramics from the Edward Weston Collection" 10 Year National Museum Tour. A catalog with exhibition history will be included.
