Lot Details

The human face was a constant source of inspiration for Picasso, and many of his ceramics feature this subject. This plate is one in a series of whimsical plates that feature multicolored faces. It is made of white earthenware, decorated with engobe, which consists of a fine clay mixed with coloring oxides, and enamel under a partially brushed glaze and grey patina.

This work was exhibited as part of the "Picasso: 25 Years of Edition Ceramics from the Edward Weston Collection" 10 Year National Museum Tour. A catalog with exhibition history will be included.
