Rockwell's "Family Tree" is one of most his most iconic images. At first glance, the work seems to depict the genealogy of the young boy positioned at the top of the work. But taking a closer look, we realize that the tree is laden with different American archetypes from different eras in the nation's history, from civil war soldiers, to Native Americans, to aristocrats. The work is therefore not a a genealogical illustration on an individual scale, but a depiction of the history of all American people. The overall message evoked in this image is that we are all inherently shaped by and products of our nation's past. The print, which measures 30 x 25 inches (76.2 x 63.5 cm), is signed and numbered by the artist and comes framed.
